Figs, heritage & honey: September festivities around Ajaccio

September in Corsica means the light softens, the markets smell of figs, and calendars fill with delicious events. Here are three festivities not to be missed in September around Ajaccio : Festa di u Ficu in Peri, European Heritage Days in Ajaccio, and U Mele in Festa in Murzo.

Why focus on the September festivities around Ajaccio ?

Because in a single return to school, we taste, we visit, we meet: Corsica, local and cultural. Perfect for gently extending summer.

Festa di u Ficu (Peri) — the fig in all its forms (September 13–14, 2025)

On the program: local varieties, jams and pastries, savory recipes, fig-cheese-honey pairings, producer demonstrations. A friendly atmosphere, village spirit... and a strong risk of leaving with your arms full (you've been warned).

Easy Corsican recipe: Roasted figs with brocciu, maquis honey & nepita

Ingredients (serves 4) : 8 ripe figs, 200g brocciu (or ricotta), 2 tbsp maquis honey, 1 pinch of nepita (or oregano/mint), lemon zest, olive oil, pepper.

Preparation (15 min)

  1. Preheat the oven to 190°C. Cut a cross in each fig, without cutting it all the way through.

  2. Stuff with a spoonful of brocciu, drizzle with olive oil and honey.

  3. Sprinkle with nepita , lemon zest, pepper.

  4. Bake for 8–10 minutes (just to cool and caramelize). At the table : serve on arugula/mesclun, with shavings of sheep's cheese. It's simple, local, and irresistible.

European Heritage Days (Ajaccio) — opening the doors to History (September 20–21, 2025)

A weekend to (re)discover Ajaccio in a different way: museums, private mansions, places of remembrance — some open only for the occasion . It's close, it's rich, and it's the perfect excuse to stroll around town.

Detailed and slightly unusual tour ideas

  • Bonaparte House : delve into Napoleon's youth and behind-the-scenes family life; enjoy the day's special mediations.

  • Palais Fesch / Museum of Fine Arts : beautiful Italian school rooms, often overlooked in the summer; guided tours are frequent during the JEP.

  • Ajaccio Citadel (depending on JEP opening) : ramparts, curtain walls and views of the harbor — one of the “wow” spots when it is accessible.

  • Buildings rarely open : private mansions, monumental staircases, historic offices... check the official JEP list a few days in advance.

  • Atypical visit : follow a “sounds & voices” trail (Corsican polyphonies/readings) in a chapel or a discreet heritage site in the old town if included in the program; it’s immersive, intimate, and very “Ajaccio”.

U Mele in Festa (Murzo) — the gold of the maquis (Sunday September 28, 2025)

Emblematic honey fair: beekeepers, PDO honey competitions, guided tastings, workshops and sweet treats (nougats, gingerbread, etc.). You instantly understand the magic of Corsican blossoms: chestnut, strawberry tree, autumn scrubland, etc. and their distinctive aromas.

To slip into the basket (and to enjoy back in Porticcio)

  • PDO honey :

    • Autumn maquis → on mature sheep's cheese, dried fruits, toasted bread.

    • Chestnut (stronger) → in natural yogurt, on vanilla ice cream, or to sweeten a minestra .

    • Strawberry tree (slight bitterness) → in vinaigrette on rocket & citrus salad.

  • Homemade fig jam → perfect with prisuttu or coppa de Bastelica, or as a base for savory toast (fig + tomme + arugula).

  • Olive oils from Alta Rocca / Tallano → for your salads, roasted vegetables, grilled fish.

  • Canistrelli & local biscuits → to dip in a strong coffee (or to crumble on a white cheese with honey).

  • Small gifts : honey/olive-based soaps, herbal teas from the maquis, pretty labeled jars of jam (guaranteed “useful souvenir” effect).

Between figs , heritage and honey , the September festivities in Ajaccio tick all the boxes: we feast, we learn, we meet people. A month to live at your own pace - with, why not, a well-deserved nap before sunset.
